NEAFC, The North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission

Based in London, UK

Activity: NEAFC is a regional fisheries management organization that maintains controls over fishing and fishing-related acts in the North East Atlantic Ocean.

Contracting Parties: Denmark (in respect of the Faroe Islands and Greenland), European Union, Iceland, Norway, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom. [ET1]

NEAFC bodies where CFMC is involved:

  1. NEAFC annual meeting:

The annual meeting covers the management of the organization, considers issues addressed by working groups, approves amendments to the Scheme.

2. The Working Group on the Implementation of Electronic Data Exchange (ERS-IMP), which is engaged in the implementation of the FLUX (UN/CEFACT) standard for data exchange between NEAFC Contracting Parties (CP).

3. The Joint Advisory Group for Data Management (JAGDM), which deals with issues and problems arising from the exchange of data between NEAFC and NAFO.

4. Permanent Committee on Monitoring and Compliance (PECMAC), responsible for ensuring that the parties comply with the provisions of the NEAFC Scheme and counter illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

NAFO, The Northwest Atlantic fisheries organization

Based in Dartmouth, Canada

Activity: NAFO is engaged in the monitoring, surveillance and management of aquatic  bioreserves in the north-western part of the Atlantic Ocean.

Guideline document: Conservation and Enforcement Measures (CEM).

Member states: Canada, Denmark (in respect of Faroe Islands and Greenland), European Union, Iceland, Japan, Norway, the Russian Federation, the USA etc.

Executive secretary: Mr. Fred Kingston

1.  Standing Committee on International Control (STACTIC) supervising the parties' compliance with the provisions of the NAFO CEM.

NPFC, The North Pacific Fisheries Commission

Based in Tokyo, Japan

Activity: NPFC is an intergovernmental organization established by the Convention on the Conservation and Management of High Seas Fisheries Resources in the North Pacific Ocean. The purpose of the Convention is to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of fishing resources in the Convention area, while protecting the marine ecosystems of the North Pacific Ocean.

Members: Canada, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, Chinese Taipei, the United States of America, and Vanuatu are all members of the NPFC. Panama is a Cooperating Non-contracting Party.

Executive Secretary: Dr. Dae-Yeon Moon


CFMC plans to participate in the work of a small working group (SWG) that deals with satellite positioning in the convention area.

SPRFMO, The South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation

Based in Wellington, New Zealand

Activity: SPRFMO is an inter-governmental organisation that is committed to the long-term conservation and sustainable use of the fishery resources of the South Pacific Ocean and, in so doing, safeguarding the marine ecosystems in which the resources occur.

Members: Australia, Republic of Chile, People's Republic of China, Cook Islands, Republic of Cuba, Republic of Ecuador, European Union, Denmark  (in respect of  the Faroe Islands), Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Republic of Peru, Russian Federation, Chinese Taipei, The United States of America, Republic of Vanuatu
